Dermal Fillers Q & A

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are a nonsurgical cosmetic injection treatment used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and restore volume to your face. Dermal fillers use hyaluronic acid or collagen to fill in wrinkles and loose, sagging skin to restore a plump, youthful appearance to your skin. Dr. Morrison, Rachel Collins-PA, and Christine Porter-PA, use dermal fillers to:

  • Reduce the appearance of wrinkles and creases on your face
  • Plump your lips
  • Fill in shallow contours and recessed scars

Boulder Dermatology offers dermal filler treatments using Restylane and Restylane Lyft. Both are clear hyaluronic gels that are formulated to mimic the hyaluronic acid produced naturally by your body.

Restylane is FDA-approved to restore fullness to your lips and Restylane Lyft is the only dermal filler FDA-approved to lift your cheeks and add volume to correct and smooth the nasolabial folds that form around your mouth and nose.

What should I expect during my dermal filler treatment?

During your dermal filler treatment, you relax in a treatment chair. Dr. Morrison or Christine Porter-PA cleanse your face and apply a topical anesthetic to ensure your comfort throughout your session.

They mark the areas on your face where they plan to inject the filler and begin to make the injections with a small needle. They work carefully, pausing often to check their work or gently massage the filler into the right position.

You should notice the results of your treatment right away. The effects of dermal filler treatments last for 6-18 months depending on the filler and the area being treated.

How should I take care of my skin following dermal filler injections?

Dr. Morrison, Rachel Collins-PA, and Christine Porter-PA will give you specific skin care instructions following your dermal filler treatment.

You should be able to return to your normal daily activities, although it’s usually recommended to avoid strenuous exercise for at least 24 hours following your injections. As always, you should wear sunscreen and take care to avoid prolonged sun exposure.
